The Way I See It – Game 4, Boise State vs La Tech
The #18 Ranked Boise State Broncos head into their 4th game riding high with a 3-0 record. Funny how the Broncos are playing only their 4th game while college football heads into its 6th week of play. The way I see it the 2008 schedule is set up nicely for the Broncos’ who begin WAC play against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Having 10 days between the Oregon win and this nationally televised game, gives the Bronco coaching staff ample time to prepare for the Bulldogs. Of course Bronco Nation will get their first chance to see former recruit, Taylor Bennett on the blue, more on this later. Bronco Nation should be exceptionally pumped as they welcome their beloved Broncos back to Boise after a great road victory against the Oregon Ducks.
The Bottom Line:
Former NFL great Terry Bradshaw and NBA great Karl “The Mailman” Malone are products of La Tech athletics. Boise State and La Tech have met 10 times in all, with the Broncos holding winning edge, 6-4. Both Boise State and La Tech joined the Western Athletic Conference in 2001, with the Broncos holding a 6-1 advantage. Though many Bronco Fans may never forget that 1 win in WAC play by La Tech against Boise State. The win cost the Broncos an H-Bowl berth back in 2001, as well as the WAC title. Some Bronco Fans could argue this is why the Broncos have run off 6 consecutive wins against the Bulldogs or it could simply mean Boise State is that much better.
The Facts:
La Tech 2-1 on the season, visit Bronco Stadium with BCS spoiler on their minds. To begin the season La Tech defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs of the SEC, but followed the win up on the road against the Kansas Jayhawks, laying a goose egg. They returned home with a win against FBS Southeastern Louisiana. The Bulldogs are led by 2nd year man Chris Dooley, who some how convinced Taylor Bennett to choose La Tech after deciding to transfer from Georgia Tech. Taylor shares an honor with Matt Leinart, as he became the second quarterback in NCAA history to complete a pass for a touchdown in his first ever collegiate play from scrimmage. However, historical facts don’t tell the whole story. In 2007, while with Georgia Tech, Bennett went 162 of 327 for 2,136 yards, with 7 TD’s against 9 interceptions leading the Yellow jackets to a 7-6 record. Rest assured Bronco Nation believes in Karma and Karma has not been too kind to one Taylor Bennett.
Boise State enters WAC play looking to regain what was lost to them last year, the WAC title. Obviously the word is out on Kellen Moore as he racked up a few awards in Week four, as he dismantled the Oregon Secondary, passing to 11 different Bronco receivers. However, the Broncos did not fair to well on the ground and if there is one thing that should have been learned from the Oregon game, is you can’t be one-dimensional. The Offensive line needs to open holes like this all game long and re-establish Boise State’s running attack.
I think this game will have blow out written all over it. However, the Broncos have been known to have let downs against lesser opponents every now and again. This doesn’t mean I see the Broncos losing on the Blue to the likes of the La Tech Bulldogs. I predict a 45-13 win, and Taylor Bennett may end up making plans to transfer yet again. Go Broncos!!
