Decide the Best Story Line from last 12 Months of Boise State Football
Apr 16th
With the end of spring practice officially coming to a close after the Blue and Orange White I thought it fitting to review and have Bronco Nation decided the top story of the last 12 months. Take time to review the list of 10 below and vote for the top story. I am sure some stories run neck and neck. Feel free to leave a comment as to why you voted the way you did and if there was a story that was missed.
I am in the process of putting a podcast together to discuss all ten of these stories. Please vote and vote often. Go Broncos!!!

February 25th – Not part of this week, but we’re digging deep at BNN. March Schalbach lists ten things he hates about College Football. Number 5 he wants Boise State in the Pac-Ten and number 4 he wants other BCS teams to play the likes of Boise State and Utah on their field. I do think he owes Coach Pat Hill money for trade mark use of “anyone, anywhere, anytime”.
April 7th – Coach Petersen says yes to a college football playoff. I hope the NCAA is listening. Coach is fond of the current bowl system, but if a Playoff could weave in the bowls, Coach says he could become a fan of that type of system. Coach we would be a fan as well.
April 8th - If Pete and Repeat were in a boat. It looks like Peak Broadcasting has replaced the departed Jadon Daley with former Boise State player Pete Cavender. No word on what Jeff will be doing this next year, but it would be funny if they messed with Bob during the game at least once. I already miss Jadon, but suspect Pete will offer comparable talent as color commentator. Additional commentary at FFBSU.
April 8th – Say What? Dave Southorn reports on what Coach Pete had to say about the Broncos 2009 schedule. Coach we here at Bronco Nation N.O.W. take each game at a time, but with the opener against Oregon and that it is Oregon, can you blame us if we fans are getting a bit excited?
April 8th – When it rains it pours. The Broncos took to a rain soaked Blue for their second scrimmage of the spring. Good news is the first team defense held the first team offense to 14 plays and one first down. The bad news is the first team offense had was limited to 14 plays and 1 first down.
April 9th – A picture is worth a thousand words. Buck “Paparazzi” Rogers at Statue Left has a plethora of photos from Wednesday’s scrimmage and we are all thankful for his talent.
April 9th – A star is born. BroncoNation N.O.W. and Bleacher Report Contributor, Lace Banachek, story regarding Wednesday’s scrimmage was picked up by Topix. Topix is a syndicated Top 10 online newspaper destination. I often find Bronco related stories from this source. Congrats Lace on hitting the big time and keep the stories coming.

News has been slow this off season, but the past 7 or 8 days have been a bit busier. I suppose it has a lot to do with the Blue & Orange Spring game just a few weeks away.
March 26th, 2009 – From Fight, Fight BSU, spend some time in the Big Apple with Ian and Chrissy Johnson. Interesting how Ian spends a day in New York City in preparation for the NFL Draft. Looks like he loves New York Restaurant Pizza, carries less than $10 in cash and that Red and Blue are his favorite colors, not Blue and Orange.
March 26th, 2009 – From the Idaho Statesman, Idaho Vandal Coach Akey stated this week that “I think we’re on the cusp of being a football team that is looking like it’s supposed to look” I wonder how he knows what a football team is supposed to look like through that mustache on his face.
March 31st, 2009 – The Idaho Press Tribune has audio of Chris Petersen providing his assessment of the first day of practice post spring break. As always the Broncos need to get better.
April 1st, 2009 – Kevan and OBNUG made an out of the blue post this week, announcing the complete 2009 WAC Football schedule. Like I commented on his site, OBNUG is gone 3 months and wham, they hit us with a pretty big scoop. Boise State at the moment is slated for 6 ESPN games, including the home opener versus the Oregon Ducks. For the second straight year the Broncos will end the season on the Blue taking on NMSU.
April 2nd, 2009 – Did you say steak? Graham Watson, everyone’s favorite ESPN writer is still crushing on the Boise State Broncos, has the 411 on Kellen Moore taking the BSU O-Line out for steak dinner and she thinks if the Broncos find that winning combination at offensive line, there will be another steak dinner. I hope the Bronco O-Line is motivated by more than steak dinners. I do agree the O-Line is a key to the Bronco’s success.
Finally if you haven’t had the change please check out Drew Roberts’ Kellen Moore Facts, either at FFBSU or the complete list here. If I missed a story of relevance please feel free to share via the comment section.

Bloggers’ Legitimacy Takes One on the Chin
Dec 6th
Since I started blogging and podcasting about Boise State three years ago, I have had a goal of being on equal footing with the local media. I have sent several emails to Boise State Athletics requesting media credentials and have been sent back denials in return. After Friday’s events, it seems that the likelihood of achieving that goal has taken a giant leap backwards.
At the end of the day what separates myself and fellow bloggers (Drew, Buck & Kevan) from established media, is legitimacy. I strive to provide content that differentiates this site from the rest, I do so without any approval from Boise State. I do however strive to meet a standard that in the end makes this site as legitimate as the local media. I concede the fact, I have zero background in journalism and may not have the best sentence structure. I do however have a passion for Boise State, podcast ninja skills, and couple of bucks to purchase a domain name and hosting. At the same time it doesn’t mean I will ever go off the deep end and conjure up rumors as one Sparty and Friends did this past Friday.
You see Sparty any credibility you may have had was just thrown out the window. Additionally, you made bloggers like myself look bad and leave us extremely frustrated in the process. To make matters worse, you offer the likes of Brian Murphy plenty of pooh to fling at bloggers. Even KTIK’s Jeff Caves and Mike Prater were able to take shots at bloggers on Idaho Sports Talk.
So why did Sparty light the Internet a buzz? It boiled down to publicity. Yes I know it is hard to believe, but its true. Everyone wants to be the first to report the story, so they can claim the title of the one who broke it. If that means reporting a story with little confirmation, then so be it. Schools like Boise State have little to zero control over bloggers and message boards. They do however, have the ability to manage the local media. In the same breath, Chad Cripe, like other beat writers, he has his newspaper’s reputation to uphold. Reporting a story that hasn’t met a set of standards would leave newspapers like the Idaho Statesman in a bad spot, a spot I myself wish to avoid.
As I continue to build this site’s legitimacy, I promise never to take the road traveled by bloggers like Sparty and Friends. Though from time to time I receive tidbits that I could quite easily write about, typically as a rule of thumb they are kept under lock and key until other outlets report them. As Bronco Nation N.O.W continues to grow, I take solace in knowing I have done things right, to the best of my ability, and with enjoyment.
