Yours Truly Gets a Shout Out from J Bates on KBCI Channel 2

Listen to the start. Despite getting the website URL wrong, and by no means am I complaining, J Bates showed yours truly a little love tonight. The fun I was referring to was the last two Spring Games, lacking the fun of 2006. I got a picture with Coach Pete after the game and thanked him for letting us down on the field after a two years. The game was great and I had a ton of fun taking pictures and live twittering the game. Working on a picture slideshow and  a Podcast to recap the spring game for next week.

Bronco Nation's Weekly Net

What a week in Bronco News around the Net.

April 9th – Former Boise State Quarterback Nick Lomax calls an end to his College Football career. Its too bad that Nick has given up on Football. We here at Bronco Nation N.O.W. wish Nick all the best.

April 11th – I could not beat Coach Pete. The 2nd Annual Beat Coach Pete fun run takes place, with several contestants actually beating Coach Pete, proving Coach Pete is not unstoppable, but containable while also shrinking his checking account by $5,000.

April 13th – Ian Johnson’s interview with the Dynasty Rogues Podcast. Seriously, how long will Ian have to answer questions about the proposal after the Fiesta Bowl? I hope forever, because it was a great moment in Bronco History.

April 13th – Coach Pete really does not like the Color orange. Coach Pete announces a change to the annual spring scrimmage, but announcing a draft. Also distinguishing the two teams as Blue and White. Coach’s hatred of the OSU Beavers runs very deep.

April 13th – Phil Daily of the Idaho Press Tribune believes the media will be locked out of Fall Camp. I believe Phil Daily will be locked out, but no one else. Also could Dave, Phil and the IPT learn RSS, as it would make me more incline to read their stories.

April 14th – Another example of Coach’s hatred for Orange. From J Bates’ Sports 2 Night Blog, the Broncos will have new uniforms in 2009 and no more orange pants, well for now.

April 14th – BSU Coaches learn from from other coaches. Coach Pete and the gang met with coaches from Oklahoma and TCU, the Chicago Bears of the NFL and 2010 opponent Oregon State as part of a Nike-sponsored trip for personal development.

April 14th – Number 1 in our hearts. Utah Coach Kyle Whittingham ranked by Sports Illustrated as the Top non-BCS Coach. Apparently the Broncos drubbing of the Utes in 2006 had no bearing on the list.

April 17th – Go North Young Man, Eh. Former Offensive Lineman Andrew Woodruff drafted 12th overall will head to the CFL, joining former Bronco Cam Hall.

Decide the Best Story Line from last 12 Months of Boise State Football

With the end of spring practice officially coming to a close after the Blue and Orange White I thought it fitting to review and have Bronco Nation decided the top story of the last 12 months. Take time to review the list of 10 below and vote for the top story. I am sure some stories run neck and neck. Feel free to leave a comment as to why you voted the way you did and if there was a story that was missed.

I am in the process of putting a podcast together to discuss all ten of these stories. Please vote and vote often. Go Broncos!!!

Boise State Coaches to Hold Boise State Fantasy Draft

blueorangegame

The Broncos will cap spring camp off with its annual Blue and Orange game. Bronco Sports reports this years game will have a bit of a twist. The past two years the format has offense versus defense. In 2006, you will recall, the second team offense and the first team defense took on the first team offense and second team defense. This years game will showcase two separate teams that will be drafted, fantasy style.

No word on the rules to the draft. Those of us that play fantasy sports like the idea of the fantasy blue and orange match up. I suppose that Kellen Moore would rank at the top on the offensive side. I wonder who would be at the top of the defensive team, hard hitting run stopper, Jeron Johnson or Kyle Wilson? Kyle gives you a threat on special teams and I have always hoped coach would line Wilson out at WR once or twice a game. The results of the fantasy draft will be release Tuesday and the suspense is killing Bronco Nation.

Tickets to the game are $7 unless you were a 2008 season ticket holder. Parking is free and the game starts at 6:30 pm, after 30 minutes or so of stretching and warm up drills. Hope to see you all there cheering on your favorite Blue and Orange Fantasy Team.

Bronco Nation's Weekly Net

February 25th –  Not part of this week, but we’re digging deep at BNN.  March Schalbach lists ten things he hates about College Football.  Number 5 he wants Boise State in the Pac-Ten and number 4 he wants other BCS teams to play the likes of Boise State and Utah on their field.  I do think he owes Coach Pat Hill money for trade mark use of “anyone, anywhere, anytime”.

April 7th – Coach Petersen says yes to a college football playoff.  I hope the NCAA is listening.  Coach is fond of the current bowl system, but if a Playoff could weave in the bowls, Coach says he could become a fan of that type of system.  Coach we would be a fan as well.

April 8th -  If Pete and Repeat were in a boat.  It looks like Peak Broadcasting has replaced the departed Jadon Daley with  former Boise State player Pete Cavender. No word on what Jeff will be doing this next year, but it would be funny if they messed with Bob during the game at least once. I already miss Jadon, but suspect Pete will offer comparable talent as color commentator.  Additional commentary at FFBSU.

April 8th – Say What?  Dave Southorn reports on what Coach Pete had to say about the Broncos 2009 schedule.  Coach we here at Bronco Nation N.O.W. take each game at a time, but with the opener against Oregon and that it is Oregon, can you blame us if we fans are getting a bit excited?

April 8th – When it rains it pours.  The Broncos took to a rain soaked Blue for their second scrimmage of the spring.  Good news is the first team defense held the first team offense to 14 plays and one first down.  The bad news is the first team offense had was limited to 14 plays and 1 first down.

April 9th – A picture is worth a thousand words.  Buck “Paparazzi” Rogers at Statue Left has a plethora of photos from Wednesday’s scrimmage and we are all thankful for his talent.

April 9th – A star is born.  BroncoNation N.O.W. and Bleacher Report Contributor, Lace Banachek, story regarding Wednesday’s scrimmage was picked up by Topix.  Topix is a syndicated Top 10 online newspaper destination. I often find Bronco related stories from this source. Congrats Lace on hitting the big time and keep the stories coming.

thenetNews has been slow this off season, but the past 7 or 8 days have been a bit busier. I suppose it has a lot to do with the Blue & Orange Spring game just a few weeks away.

March 26th, 2009 – From Fight, Fight BSU, spend some time in the Big Apple with Ian and Chrissy Johnson.  Interesting how Ian spends a day in New York City in preparation for the NFL Draft.  Looks like he loves New York Restaurant Pizza, carries less than $10 in cash and that Red and Blue are his favorite colors, not Blue and Orange.

March 26th, 2009 – From the Idaho Statesman, Idaho Vandal Coach Akey stated this week that “I think we’re on the cusp of being a football team that is looking like it’s supposed to look”  I wonder how he knows what a football team is supposed to look like through that mustache on his face.

March 31st, 2009 –  The Idaho Press Tribune has audio of Chris Petersen providing his assessment of the first day of practice post spring break.  As always the Broncos need to get better.

April 1st, 2009 – Kevan and OBNUG made an out of the blue post this week, announcing the complete 2009 WAC Football schedule.   Like I commented on his site, OBNUG is gone 3 months and wham, they hit us with a pretty big scoop.  Boise State at the moment is slated for 6 ESPN games, including the home opener versus the Oregon Ducks.  For the second straight year the Broncos will end the season on the Blue taking on NMSU.

April 2nd, 2009 – Did you say steak?  Graham Watson, everyone’s favorite ESPN writer is still crushing on the Boise State Broncos, has the 411 on Kellen Moore taking the BSU O-Line out for steak dinner and she thinks  if the Broncos find that winning combination at offensive line, there will be another steak dinner.  I hope the Bronco O-Line is motivated by more than steak dinners.  I do agree the O-Line is a key to the Bronco’s success.

Finally if you haven’t had the change please check out Drew Roberts’ Kellen Moore Facts, either at FFBSU or the complete list here.  If I missed a story of relevance please feel free to share via the comment section.

Idaho's Longest Running Sports Talk Show, Offically A Podcast.

Now KITK’s Idaho Sports Talk has always boasted they had podcast.  Really what they did was posted an audio file to their site, that based on my experiences, never actually worked.

Most often the audio link was dead or simply not there.  If the audio was working you had to download the file, then add it to iTunes, mark that is was a podcast and play from the stopping point.  You guessed it, not to user friendly, but someone at KTIK finally caught the clue and now IST is available via iTunes via subscription.

Click here to subscribe with iTunes or subscribe using your favorite podcatcher here.  In iTunes you can report a concern, after all it is Jeff Caves and Mike Prater.  If you really don’t want them to get in trouble be sure to leave a review, I think a negative instant message type review would suffice.
