Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few days KBOI has lost the rights to broadcast Boise State Athletics to KIDO. Of course the first reaction is what does this mean in regard to Paul J Schneider the voice of the Broncos for 35 years. That story is yet to be played out and an Internet petition was set up by Drew from the Fight, Fight BSU blog. However, the fate of Paul J aside, how does this change of broadcast rights effect the other people involved in Bronco Game Day. It is safe to say that broadcasting Boise State football involves a great number of people. In addition, KBOI had set in place a series of programs revolving around game day. Some of these included the coach’s show, the pre-game show, and Bronco Game Night. Granted KIDO will hopefully make every effort to continue these traditions, but can we be sure.

In addition, KIDO promised combinations of Radio Stations that will be broadcasting the games. I really don’t care what promises they make, KIDO will never be able to match the broadcast range of KBOI unless they actually match the signal output. Though the Internet is a great way to get the broadcast, it isn’t a close enough match to what KBOI has been able to do to reach a large audience. Also are we going to have downloadable mp3 files of the games to listen to on demand?

Now I will give Boise State and KIDO the benefit of the doubt that they have all the little things worked out, but I think that what can only be termed as a monumental change in how Bronco Nation accesses the game could have been presented better, after all the reason to secure these broadcast rights it increase listener ship and sell advertising.
