Bush Hamdan and Other Former Bronco's to Hold Football Workouts for Treasure Valley Youth

Bush Hamdan, Vinny Perretta, & Tanyon Bissell will be holding football workouts every Sunday at the Boise State Indoor Facility located adjacent to Bronco Stadium. The next workout is this Sunday, March 1st.

The cost is only $10 per session. The sessions will be geared for quarterbacks, wide receivers, tight ends, running backs, and O-lineman. They will offer two different sessions, a session for high school athletes at 4:00PM and a session for youth athletes at 5:00PM. Looks like us old out of shape guys are out of luck.

For the price and what is being offered it stands to reason this will be an excellent opportunity for Treasure Valley’s young football players. If you would like more details please contact Bush Hamdan at 301-351-8801 or email him at bushhamdan@yahoo.com.

Please Brian Murphy Get Over Youself

Ok I’ll admit as a fan of Boise State Athletics I have not been the biggest supporter of Boise State Basketball. It goes without saying that as a fan last night’s loss to the University of Idaho is painful on two levels. A loss is never fun and losing to Idaho is unbearably painful. As painful as losing is to us fans it nowhere measures up to that of the pain the players and coaches are felt and continue to feel.

The Broncos blew an 8 point first half lead, being unable to score for 6 minutes and 17 seconds late in the game, missing a would be winning 3 point basket and disappointing over 10,000 in attendance and those watching or listening at home. Today however the Idaho Statesman’s Brian Murphy decided to twist the knife and pour salt on the wound.

What I don’t get about Murphy’s article, Bronco Men Squander a Big Opportunity, is his verbal attack on the players. Brian asserts that Vandals were “mentally tougher” than the Broncos. I wonder how Murphy you came to this conclusion? Have you administered some sort of “mental toughness” test to both Vandal and Bronco basketball players? Though the Broncos blew a sizable lead, let us not forget that there were 2 very clutch 3 pointers made down the stretch as well as Anthony Thomas making two clutch free throws to tie the game with 27 seconds remaining. If that doesn’t scream “mentally tough” than I was watching a different game than you Brian.

What won the game for the Vandals was they made more clutch plays down the stretch and though I don’t think Coach Graham is a terrible coach, he was simply out coached last night. aarongarner-150x225On the games final score the Broncos defended the play, but failed to capitalize on a rebound, which led to an easy bucket for the Vandals. Needless to say Murphy the Broncos were not standing around as you contend and they too were scrapping and clawing for the win. Your article leaves me to conclude the your belief is the Broncos players are not passionate enough and lack the heart play hard, which is far from the truth.

The other thing that I conclude from your shameful article is that you assert some sort of vested interest in Boise State Basketball. What concern is it of Brian Murphy that the University draw big crowds at Taco Bell Arena for home games. Are you not as a “writer” supposed to take the neutral ground and report the news? Win or loose do you not still have stories to write?

As a reader of the Idaho Statesman it is clear that you Brian Murphy are not a big fan of Boise State Basketball or moreover you are not big fan of Greg Graham. Despite having winning seasons, winning the WAC Championship and getting more than expected out of this current group of kids, you are still far from satisfied and have taken things personal. So personal you have thrown these young student athletes under the bus.

Clearly these kids have talent enough to play basketball on the college level. As players should they execute to the best of their ability what is coached. To say they are not “mentally tough” is simply low class. To imply they have less passion for winning as the opposing team is low class. To rub their noses in it is low class. Attacking the coach is one thing, but to assault these young student athletes like this is simply low class and in bad taste. So please Brian Murphy get over yourself.

We Join the 2008/09 Mens Basketball Season Already In Progress

I’ll admit I am not a huge fan of Basketball. Dreams of making the 7th grade Junior High team ended with the first round of cuts and I never made an attempt to play again. When Larry Bird retired from the Celtics I simply lost interest all together. As you can tell making an attempt at watching Bronco’s Mens Basketball game, well was simply not going to happen.

Fast forward to Friday February 14th, 2009. I had promised my daughter we would go to a game again this year. I had attended the Idaho State overtime thriller earlier in the year. I picked the Utah State game as simply it with out a doubt the best game left on the schedule. Of note, I did not attend the football player autograph session as to make this a Boise State Basketball only night.

Utah St Boise St BasketballThe game last night was a an exciting game for players, coaches and fans. Coach Graham had a game plan tonight and Anthony Thomas was determined to win the game on his own. The Utah State crowd was small, but very loud for its size. The #17 Utah State Aggies were in Boise to take care of a WAC Championship and opened the game with its first 2 points. Contrary to Mike Prater’s babble, after the loss to Fresno State, this Bronco’s Basketball team was very motivated and responded with a 3 point basket.

They of course had 7,500 motivated fans as well. The turning point in the game was the last basket of the second half.  Anthony Thomas drained a 3 point basket to give the Broncos a 27-25 lead at half and the  Broncos came in the second half  to seal the deal. Early in the second half Anthony Thomas hit back to back 3 point buckets extending the lead to 11 and the Broncos never looked back.

Despite the convincing 66-56 win last tonight, snapped Utah State’s 19-game winning streak, the Broncos most definitely have room for improvement shooting 23-55 from the field. Many those missed shots were within 3 feet of the basket.

The Broncos return to action this Wednesday versus the Idaho Vandals in what can be deemed as a revenge game for the Broncos who lost early this year in Moscow. The loss broke a Bronco 14 game win streak against the Vandals that dated back to February 17, 2001. Oh and let us not forget the idiotic Vandal fans behavior after rushing to the court like they had won a championship.

This upcoming game for the Broncos is very important in the chase for essentially 2nd place in the WAC and an all important first round bye in the upcoming WAC Tournament. I am calling you out Bronco Nation. Everyone from the Diehard, the bandwagon fan, the Bronco fan who thinks minor league hockey is more important than NCAA basketball, the fair weather fan (it will be warm inside I promise) and those who think they need to catch the latest episode of Lost (set the DVR). Yes Bronco Nation this men’s basketball program needs you to put your butt in the seats of Taco Bell Arena, make some noise and show this team that the Nation is just as motivated for Basketball as we are Football.  No more excuses.

Streaming Video Live from Buffalo Wild Wings

Greetings, I received an email from Andrew Paul, KBOI & KTIK program director Monday asking for if I would like to participate in their Letter of Intent Party. With that I have decided to provide streaming video of the event for Bronco Nation. It may not be the party it once was, but it will be a party none the less. I invite all that are unable to attend live to view streaming video of the event at http://bronconationnow.com/live. Like last year a chat room will be made available.
